The Zero-God Hypothesis: Atheism, Iconoclasm, and the Evolutionary Release of Psychic Energy Abstract This paper proposes a metaphorical framework where atheism is understood as a “zero-god state” that unlocks psychic energy otherwise trapped in idolatry. Drawing on analogies from nuclear physics, psychoanalysis, and Darwinian evolution, we suggest that iconoclasm (the rejection or destruction of idols) could be interpreted as a trigger for evolutionary leaps in cognition and consciousness.
